Why Rotterdam?
"I deliberately chose this city. I love big cities and beautiful architecture; I also studied in London for a few years. Rotterdam is beautiful, even in the rain! And cozy, a difficult word to pronounce for me as an international student, but important when describing the city."
What did you learn in Rotterdam?
"I really like the Rotterdam 'can-do' mindset. That's really an inspiration to me. Especially because it's combined with that Rotterdam relaxed attitude. Just take your chances, do your best and everything will work out. That's a wonderful life motto, isn't it? And what I'm also learning, but literally, is Dutch. But that's not easy!"
Where should you be?
"As a freshman in Rotterdam, you can't go wrong. You don't have to be nervous; you're just going to have a great time. There are so many opportunities! But if I may still give a tip: go to the Euromast for a kickstart to your time in Rotterdam. First enjoy the beautiful view of the city, and then go abseiling. Really great to do! And you'll get enough adrenaline for the rest of your academic year."
What should you really do (or not do) as a freshman?
"Don't make the mistake I made; don't buy an expensive new bike. Especially not if you park it near the Market Hall, it's guaranteed to get stolen! And what you do need to do? Undertake something. Go out with your roommates or with people from your education. Or follow a workshop at the community center, for example, meet the 'locals' and make new friends that way."
What will you do?
"I will finish my studies and then I will look for a job. I am lucky: there is plenty of work in Rotterdam in my field. I would like to continue living here. Rotterdam is such a beautiful city, there is so much to do and the people are so nice! I have really found my home here."
