Accessibility
Rotterdam Leert je Leven wants everyone to be able to use this website easily.
This includes visitors who are blind or visually impaired, deaf or hard of hearing, have a physical disability, are neurodivergent, or may face other barriers when using websites.
That is why we are working to create an accessible website that as many people as possible can use, understand, and navigate.
Accessibility Study
In September 2024, the website rotterdamleertjeleven.nl was assessed for digital accessibility.
This study was conducted by Swink. The study was carried out in accordance with the WCAG-EM evaluation method and assessed against WCAG 2.1 Level AA.
This audit shows that the website does not yet fully meet accessibility requirements. One or more accessibility issues were identified in 15 of the 50 success criteria.
What we already know from the audit
The study highlighted the following key points, among others:
- Not all images have an appropriate text alternative
- Complex images, such as maps and timetables, do not yet have adequate text alternatives
- Not all videos have a fully accessible alternative, such as a transcript or audio description
- In some places, the structure of headings, quotes, and interactive elements is not technically sound
- Some links and keyboard interactions are unclear or difficult to use
- English-language sections are not always correctly marked as a language switch
- The language selection in the header has not yet been fully optimized for assistive technology
Based on these results, we are working on improvements.
Accessibility Statement
No official accessibility statement for this website has yet been published in the national registry at toegankelijkheidsverklaring.nl.
We will still draft and publish this statement. In it, we will formally state:
- what the current accessibility status of the website is
- which components already meet the requirements
- which parts do not yet meet the requirements
- what improvement measures are planned
- how visitors can report accessibility issues
Until that statement is published, this page serves as an explanation of the current situation.
Exceptions
At this time, some parts of the website are not yet fully accessible.
This certainly applies to the areas identified in the audit, such as:
- certain images without proper alt text
- maps and other complex visual content without detailed descriptions
- some videos without a full alternative
- sections of the navigation and language selection that still need technical improvements
- interactive features that do not yet work optimally with a keyboard or screen reader
Where necessary, we will improve these areas step by step.
